At Newbie Tech, we believe that cultivating friendly competition and sportsmanship helps build self-confidence, collaboration, and community, especially among youth in their formative years. In this vein, we are developing an esports platform to host esports competitions for professional gamers.
Esports is a term that has been used to describe highly organized video game competitions, typically among professional players and leagues. The term was popularized by ESPN, which started broadcasting esports competitions in 2013. The esports industry has skyrocketed globally in the past few years, attracting millions of viewers around the world, and is projected to surpass $1.5B by 2023.
Once seen as a niche phenomenon, esports have now gone mainstream, being championed by major celebrities including Michael Jordan, Drake, and DJ Marshmello, and being covered by sports outlets like ESPN.
There is a strong social component of live gaming, which includes an element of livestreaming as well, and gives fans a direct connection to the players and teams. In addition to the social element of esports, it’s a versatile sport that can be enjoyed by all age groups and nationalities. It promotes coordination and teamwork, as well as hand-eye coordination and critical thinking skills.
